Three cups of tea Amira Q&A.
Amira describes sacrifices her family made so her dad, Greg Mortenson, would help people in Central Asia. Could you make such sacrifices? Why or Why not? Use examples from the book to help support your reasoning.
I don't think that I would be able to make the sacrifice of not having my father around and constantly leaving, as Amira said in the Q&A. I know this sounds selfish, but my dad and I are really great friends and he and I get a long very well, so, even if he was away promoting peace and building schools, I still probably would not be able to deal with him being gone all the time. There's also the fact that Amira's father is in a dangerous part of the world, and, if I were her, I would be really afraid for my father's life and safety. She also said that, even when he was home, and they were simply getting ice cream or going anywhere in public, people would start conversations with her father, and treat him like a rockstar, so that she didn't get to really ever spend father-daughter time with him when they were in public. I would probably be able to make this sacrifice if it were my mom, and not my dad, because my mom and I don't get along as well as my dad and I do, but, even if it were my mom, I would still worry for her safety and miss her a lot. However, one of the possible pluses of not having your dad around much, is, as Amira said, you can connect with a lot of people whose parent is serving in the army, and, as a result of Greg being gone so much, I think that the rest of her family, (Khyber and Tara) are closer. However, these advantages don't outweigh the disadvantages of not having your father around. That's why I think that I wouldn't be able to live Amira's lifestyle.
